The Mytheum ("we", "us") publishes retellings of ancient myths. This policy explains, in plain terms, how the site handles information when you visit. We have tried to keep it honest and specific rather than boilerplate: it describes what the site actually does today, and flags clearly where that will change once advertising and a newsletter are switched on.
The short version
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not sell personal information. The site itself collects no analytics and sets no tracking cookies of its own. The only data stored in your browser today is a single preference that remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. That is the whole of it, until the two additions described below go live.
Information handled on the site today
Theme preference. When you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under a single key so the site remembers it on your next visit. This never leaves your device, is not sent to us, and is not used to identify you. Clearing your browser storage removes it.
Contact by email. The contact page opens your own email client with a pre-filled subject. If you write to us, we receive your message and email address in our inbox, and we use them only to reply and to act on what you have raised (for example, fixing a correction you report). We do not add you to any list from a contact email.
Server logs. Like almost all websites, the service that hosts this site may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, and the pages requested) for security and to keep the site running. These are ordinary hosting logs, not something we analyse to profile visitors.
Advertising and cookies
The site does not currently display advertising and sets no advertising cookies. We intend to introduce advertising through Google AdSense. When that happens, this section will apply and the date above will be updated. It is written here in advance so the policy is complete.
Once advertising is live:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see Google's policy.
Newsletter
The home page shows a newsletter sign-up field. At present it is not connected to any mailing service and does not store or transmit what you type. When we connect a real newsletter provider, this section will be updated to name that provider and explain how your email address is stored and how to unsubscribe. Until then, entering an address there does nothing.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
You can browse the site without giving us any personal information. You can clear the theme preference by clearing your browser storage, decline or remove cookies through your browser settings, and opt out of personalised advertising through the links above once ads are live. If you have written to us and would like your email correspondence deleted, ask and we will remove it from our inbox.
Changes to this policy
When the site changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update the text and the "last updated" date at the top. Changes are posted here rather than announced separately.
